Today the K/1 class finished their Leo Lionni chameleons. We read A Color of His Own and were inspired by those colorful characters. The students practiced drawing the chameleon several times before they drew it on their watercolor paper. Each student identified parts they liked and a part they wanted to practice more. This helped them reflect on their artwork, noticing things that went well and things they would do differently next time. Then I gave them the opportunity to do it that “next time”.
Students drew in black marker, and then painted in watercolor. They had to think about a background or setting for their chameleon that would explain his color. We then did an art walk, looking at each other’s chameleons and noticing how different each was.
